Energy conservation through energy storage combined with intensive use of renewable energies will support the effort to meet the objectives of reduction of climatic gases formulated in the Kyoto protocol. Potential studies have shown that in Germany about 20 – 25 % of the end-energy consumption for space heating and domestic hot water can be covered by solar energy. Solar district heating with seasonal storage can cover half of this.
